Songfacts®:

  • In this song, the singer gets the skinny on a girl he used to know. He finds out she had set out to find the "high life," but she'll never get there. "It's about a girl who's enticed by famous people, Hollywood, celebrity, just living the dream," group leader Mike Rutherford told Songfacts. "And it isn't like that. They never get there - they're trying too hard. So, it's not so much necessarily drugs, it's more to do with the excitement of success, being in the in-crowd, that sort of thing. And this girl's never going to make it."
  • Ed Drewett wrote this song with Rutherford. Drewett can be heard singing on the Professor Green hit "I Need You Tonight"; he also co-wrote the #1 UK hit "All Time Low" by The Wanted.
  • Mike + The Mechanics use two different lead singers. Originally, they were Paul Carrack and Paul Young, but when the band re-formed in 2010, Tim Howar and Andrew Roachford took on those roles. Howar, who performed in the Rod Stewart musical Tonight's The Night, sang on this track.
