Songfacts®:

  • Here, Miley Cyrus calls out a cheating lover.

    You comin' 'round
    With your muddy feet
I'ma 'bout to do something 'bout it

"Muddy feet" is not literal. It's a metaphor for Cyrus' unfaithful beau who gets his feet figuratively dirty.
  • Cyrus lets out all that pent-up frustration with some seriously powerful vocals. She growls and belts out her feelings, calling out that no-good lover who keeps messing up her life before Sia croons a swelling outro.
  • Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's love story started in 2009 when they met on the set of The Last Song. From then on, it was a bit of a roller coaster ride, with the couple dating on and off for nearly a decade. In 2018, they finally tied the knot, but they split up a few months later.

Fans couldn't help but connect several Endless Summer Vacation tracks, including "Flowers" and this song, to the Hunger Games actor.
  • Sia also co-wrote another Endless Summer Vacation track, "Violet Chemistry." She and Miley previously performed "Stars Are Blind" alongside Paris Hilton for Miley's New Year's Eve Party in 2022.
  • Mike WiLL Made-It co-wrote and co-produced the track. The producer is no stranger to working with Miley Cyrus, dating back to her 2013 album Bangerz. He produced eight tracks on Bangerz, including its lead single, "We Can't Stop."

Michael Pollack, Bibi Bourelly, Aldae, Jesse Shatkin, Sia, Jesse van der Meulen, Jonny Coffer, Jerome Williams, Jesse Shatkin and Zwiffa also contributed to the song's composition.
  • Because "Muddy Feet" samples Christiana Aguilera's "Genie in a Bottle," its writers, David Frank, Steve Kipner and Pam Sheyne, also get credited.
