Songfacts®:

  • In this single from her fourth studio album, Mindy Smith struggles with letting go of mementos from an old relationship and other sentimental items from her past.

"That song is about how I went through this period where I was collecting things from thrift stores that I thought needed to be saved," she explained in a 2022 Songfacts interview. "I was finding treasures. I thought if I get on the Antiques Roadshow, this is gonna be the one. I'd look at something and think, 'Somebody worked on that, somebody made that, and it's my job to save it.' It was weird. It's very strange. I ended up having a lot of stuff. Also, I don't know why I had these bills from 1996. All I needed to do was run them through the shredder, but I still had them. These little things I hold onto, I attach a sentimental value to them, when life is gonna keep moving. Highs and lows."
  • While Stupid Love retained elements of Smith's alt-country style, the album leaned more into the contemporary pop realm compared to her previous efforts.
