Songfacts®:

  • In this single from her sophomore album, folk singer Mindy Smith reaches out to a friend for comfort during a trying time. "When I wrote it, it was about communicating and loving each other," she explained in a 2022 Songfacts interview. "Not a peace-loving song. Everybody's hurting, everybody's struggling in one way or another. It could fit into this world we're living in now in a lot of different ways. Everyone's feeling like the noise is so loud. I almost wish that sometimes we could use it to be a little quieter compared to when the song was written, with more listening going on."
  • Smith wrote this with Hillary Lindsey, who co-wrote the Carrie Underwood hit "Jesus, Take The Wheel." Smith also had a Jesus-themed under her belt: her debut single, "Come To Jesus."
  • Long Island Shores takes its name from Smith's hometown of Long Island, New York.
  • The album peaked at #15 on the Independent Albums chart.
  • This was used on the TV series Hidden Palms in the 2007 episode "Mulligan."
