• The first single from Miranda Lambert's fourth full-length album, Four The Record, is a kiss off to an ex regarding how she's been dragging his ego and is being sent packing with his emotional "baggage." "I drop your troubles off at the conveyor built / I hand you a ticket to go get it yourself," the feisty songstress sings. She debuted the tune at a South Carolina concert in July 2011.
• Speaking about "Baggage Claim," Lambert said it is "the grooviest song I've ever recorded. It makes you want revenge and want to dance all at the same time."
• Lambert co-wrote the song with Nashville songwriters Luke Laird ("So Small", "Hillbilly Bone") and Natalie Hemby ("White Liar", "Only Prettier"). Lambert gave props to Laird's contribution. "It's really fun to write with someone like Luke because he has really cool grooves and he's a great guitar player," she told Country Music Is Love. "You're limited with me, because I can only play a certain amount of chords and I'm not a great guitar player at all. Writing with somebody that can play guitar really well gives you a whole new playing field."
• "'Baggage" marked the first time Lambert released both a "clean" and "explicit" version of the same song. The explicit version includes the closing line, "Come and get your s--t!"
• Lambert's pal Josh Kelley lent some backing vocals to the tune. Kelley first hooked up with Lambert when he joined her and Eric Church on the singer's 2010 Revolution tour.
• The song began with Hemby and Laird in a writing session before they opted to invite Lambert to join them. "They decided to bring me in on the song," recalled The House That Built Me singer. "They already had the idea, the verse and half the chorus and I came in and put my edge on it ... It's fun. It's different than anything I've done and I'm getting a great response."
• The song features the English musician Steve Winwood on the B-3 organ.
• Four The Record broke a record when it topped the Country chart in its debut week resulting in Lambert becoming the first country artist to reach #1 with her first four albums. And, that's not even counting the disk she recorded with side project Pistol Annies, as their self-titled long player debuted at the summit on the September 10, 2011 Country Albums tally.
