  • Here, Miranda Lambert shares some wise words about not getting flustered when things are not going her way.

Spilled a little A1 Sauce on the tablecloth?
    Don't sweat it
    Tide Stick'll get it
It'll all come out, all come out in the wash
  • "It all comes out in the wash" is an idiom meaning the problem will be resolved eventually, in the same way dirt and stains are removed by washing. The earliest recorded use of a form of this phrase is in Miguel de Cervantes 1605 satire of chivalric romance Don Quixote.

All will away in the bucking

Bucking was a washing method known in late medieval times in which household linen and clothes were cleaned with water containing "bleaches" like ashes or urine.
  • Miranda Lambert wrote "Wash" with the Love Junkies: Lori McKenna, Liz Rose, and Hillary Lindsey. The songwriting trio were also responsible for Little Big Town's huge hit "Girl Crush," and Carrie Underwood's "Cry Pretty" (with Underwood).

Lambert explained that she and the Love Junkies like "to talk about girly things and things going on in life" during their co-writes. She added: "This song is just kind of a mix of scenarios that all of us have either been a part of or seen, or, you know, something that's happened in all of our lives."
  • Lambert explained how the titular laundry reference fits in with the song's meaning. "Realizing that when you have something in your life that's a little hurtful or a moment that you wish would pass, it does all pass," she said. "And it all comes out in the wash."

"That's something that all of our moms would say to us when we were little," Lambert added, "let's not worry about a stain."
  • Lambert has form for including mom-isms on her songs. Her 2011 cut "Mama's Broken Heart" finds her mother trying to straighten out her daughter, saying, "Go and fix your makeup girl. It's just a breakup. Run and hide your crazy and start actin' like a lady." (None of the four writers of "Wash" were a part of "Mama's Broken Heart").
  • Miranda Lambert told Entertainment Weekly the song's message of moving on after something bad is a common theme throughout the Wildcard album. She added: "Feeling it in the moment is okay too, just taking it in and saying 'I'm gonna learn from this, next.' I've done that. At 35 so far, I've lived a lot of life and I've written it all down."
  • The song's music video finds Miranda Lambert getting down and dirty. Directed by her frequent collaborator Trey Fanjoy, the mud-slinging clip was filmed outside Nashville. We see the country star making a mess with her huge, white 4-wheel drive truck during a fun-filled day with her friends. Later, they take a trip to the car wash to clean up.
