Songfacts®:

  • This was the second single from Country artist Miranda Lambert's third album, Revolution.
  • Lambert wrote this song with Natalie Hemby. It is about a woman confronting her man for cheating, who calls him a "white liar" for deceiving her, then admits in the song's bridge that she has been telling white lies to him as well. Lambert said in publicity materials: "I just had been listening to tons of Buddy and Julie Miller and the Steeldrivers, that rockin' bluegrass music. Cheatin' in a small town basically is what it's about."
  • Revolution won Album of the Year at the 2010 ACM Awards. This song also won Video of the Year and Lambert Top Female Vocalist at the same ceremony.
  • Natalie Hemby had always wanted to be a songwriter, but had just about given up on her ambition and taken a marketing job. When her husband, Mike Wrucke, got a gig mixing and co-producing Miranda Lambert's Revolution album, Hemby was asked to write with her.

They penned during a couple of sittings. this song, "Only Prettier" and two other tunes for the record. It was the start of a longtime collaboration between the pair, which has included an ACM win for "Automatic." There have also been cuts of Hemby-penned tunes recorded by Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town and many more big Nashville names.

  • Camille from Toronto, OhOmg. I wondered why that guy always looked so familiar to me. Jamey Johnson!!!! Honest, I never realized that was him and now I love the video a gazillion times more. His song "In Color" is one of my all time favorite songs...it is one of the most amazingly written and sung songs of all time. Oh, thanks for that bit of trivia!
  • Jason from Ogallala, NeNice video too, i like Jamey Johnson's appearance as the preacher. She's becoming my favorite female country singer.
  • Camille from Toronto, OhMiranda Lambert's best song. The guitar playing is absolutely beautiful and her voice mixes incredibly with the tune. Just love it.
