Songfacts®:

  • This '90s House music throwback featured in the 2008 movie Cloverfield during a dance party scene. It also showed up in the 2010 romantic comedy The Back-up Plan, starring Jennifer Lopez.
  • The vocalist is Shayna Steele. Moby explained in a newsletter how he hooked up with the singer: "Someone sent me Shayna's demo tape and I immediately thought: 'What an incredible voice.' She sounded like she was destined to make disco songs in 1978. For me the biggest compliment I could pay a female singer."
  • Moby told CNN about the song's video: "The director is an old friend of mine named Evan Bernard, and we were going back and forth trying to think of ideas for the video and we just couldn't come up with anything good. And then at the last minute he said, "OK, how about an early '70s pimp chicken attacks me looking sort of like the head of an international chicken [franchise]?" And the name of the company is MFC - Moby Fried Chicken. So it's this 10-foot-tall pimp chicken chasing me through the streets of Mexico City and then butchering me at the end and eating me while he's surrounded by strippers.
What's funny is, I'm a vegan and an animal-rights activist and I didn't even know that it's an animal-rights video. But friends of mine in the vegan/animal-rights community saw it and were like, 'Wow, this is such a great pro-animal rights video.' And I was like, 'Oh, I just thought it was funny.'"
  • This is the lead single from Moby's eighth studio album, Last Night. It peaked at #2 on the UK Dance chart and #1 on the US Dance Club Songs tally.
  • With just 200,000 copies sold worldwide in its first month, it's safe to say this album isn't Moby's best seller - but a changing of the guard behind the scenes could be to blame. In 2007, the year before its release, Moby was left out in the cold when his American label, V2 Records, was dissolved. He signed a new deal with Mute Records, who already handled his international dealings, to distribute and promote him in the US, which gave him less exposure.
