Songfacts®:

  • This song wasn't originally written for Mogwai. Guitarist John Cummings explained to Uncut magazine: "I'd just been messing about and didn't think it was appropriate. 'Mexican Grand Prix' was just a wee Casio, Krautrock-sounding thing and when I was playing about I managed to get a computer to sing, although I can't remember how I did it. You can put a Neu! drumbeat on anything, so I hadn't really expected us to make much of that."
  • Scottish novelist and musician Luke Sutherland is credited with supplying violin and 'human singing' on the track. His debut novel, Jelly Roll, was nominated for the Whitbread Prize in the first novel category in 1998.
