Songfacts®:

  • One of the themes of Better Than Heavy is death, and on this song vocalist Jon McClure sings, "One day, you'll see a space you can't replace." He told The Independent newspaper March 6, 2009 that this lyric comes straight from the heart. The singer explained: "My dad's side of the family is beset by tragedy. Suicide is very prevalent in my family, and other band members'. But the empathy for others' suffering comes more from being educated. None of my 50-odd cousins went to university. I did. I don't want to be stupid."
