Songfacts®:

  • Troy Gentry handles lead vocals on this poignant song, which finds him singing about how his hard-partying days have given way to somewhat calmer times.

I've turned the page on wilder days
I'm writing all this down hoping you see
    I ain't sayin' I'm perfect, but I'm workin' on a better me

Having sown his wild oats in his younger days, Troy now wants to become a better man.
  • The song was recorded before Troy Gentry was tragically killed in a helicopter crash on September 8, 2017. It was premiered on September 14, 2017 at the end of Gentry's funeral at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House.
  • The song's lyric video features still shots of the duo. "What can I say, this song says it all," Eddie Montgomery said. "Troy never sounded better. This video is like a walk down memory lane for me and T-Roy over the years. So many great memories. I am glad to share this with our friends."
  • Eddie Montgomery told The Boot this was an especially important song to his late singing partner.

"Cutting these albums over the last 20 years, a lot of times, I would find a song and think, 'That's a Montgomery Gentry song, but T needs to be singing it.' Or T would bring me a song and go, 'Hey, man, I found this song and you gotta sing it,'" Montgomery recalled. "But that song - when he heard it, he came to me and said, 'Eddie, I really, really wanna sing this song.' That's the first time that had ever happened. Of course, he sang it, and the rest is history."
