Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from Country music duo Montgomery Gentry's seventh album. The song, which was co-penned by Eddie Montgomery, recognizes the importance of hard work, forgiveness, and overall social responsibility. Montgomery commented: "I love this one, it's just a song about real American folks and their lives."
  • This song, along with the rest of the album, was produced by Blake Chancey, who helmed the duo's 2008 CD, Back When I Knew It All.
  • The song was to have been on an album titled Freedom, but after it only peaked at #40 on the Country singles chart it was scrapped. Columbia then planned to include it on an EP titled Hits and More: Life Beside a Gravel Road, but a day before the extended play's slated release, Montgomery Gentry exited the label, so it got shelved.
