Songfacts®:

  • This song was written by Eric Idle for the movie Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life. In the film, a man walks out of a fridge, knocks down a wall and walks across the universe with Mrs. Brown trying to persuade her to have a live organ transplant by making her feel insignificant with all the wonderful facts that the fridge man (who, at the end, walks back into the fridge) gives her. >>>

  • Des from AustraliaWho was the singer of song Galaxy --and the ending of the song on intelligence being /// bloody none on earth. I loved it and cannot find the name of singer now on any sites. Can you help
  • Edward from Henderson, NvThe melody of this song reminds me very much of Bent Fabric's "Alley Cat."
  • Nady from Adelaide, AustraliaI like it when he crawls out of the fridge "Does life ever get you down Mrs. Brown??"
  • Garry from Fairfax, VaWhat are the real facts to this song?
  • Martijn from Helmond, Netherlands"On top of that this song was written when we didn't know too much about the universe and space and most of the lyrics of things like the distantce and speed and etc etc were random guesses. Most of them suprisingly accurate."
BS. All the numbers in the song are derived from scientific sources that were readily available, even back then. The seventies weren't the Middle Ages, you know. Man had already set foot on the moon by the time Idle wrote this.
  • Obzcure from Auckland, New ZealandThe song is actually called 'The galaxy song'. The great cartoon series 'Animaniacs' did a spoof version (prehaps more of a homage) titled 'The universe song'. On top of that this song was written when we didn't know too much about the universe and space and most of the lyrics of things like the distantce and speed and etc etc were random guesses. Most of them suprisingly accurate.
