Songfacts®:

  • This lighthearted tune about spontaneous romance was one of a bunch of songs written by Morgan Evans with Chris DeStefano (Luke Bryan's "That's My Kind of Night," Carrie Underwood's "Something in the Water") after they met at a writing camp in Australia. Josh Osbourne (Kenny Chesney's "Come Over," Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road") also contributed to the writing of the tune.
  • Released on July 21, 2017 as the lead single from Evans' second studio album in his native Australia, "Kiss Somebody" peaked at #53 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Nine months later, it won the award for Country Work of the Year at the APRA Music Awards.
  • The song was Evans' first single to be released to country radio in the United States, following the signing of his record deal with Warner Music Nashville.
  • The slow-motion clip, which was directed by Jeff Venable, actually took less than half a minute to shoot. "I've made a bunch of videos in Australia before and we started talking about the video," Evans recalled to ABC Radio. "And all I said was, 'I just don't want to have a video of a dude with a girl in a bar or something. It needs to be something really interesting.'"

"And a guy named Jeff Venable put this treatment forward," Morgan continued. "It was like all one shot in this slow-motion event thing. And I just thought it sounded different and cool."

"We shot the whole thing in 15 seconds or something like that," he explained. "Because it's slow motion, so it's 15 seconds that's stretched out."

Though the actual shot took less than half a minute, the setups and run-throughs lasted a lot longer. "We spent all morning setting up and rehearsing," Evans explained, "and then I think we shot maybe ten runs of it, and we just picked the best one. And that's it."

"It was a crazy experience, and it was freezing cold that day too," he added. "I don't know if you can tell when you watch it. I think they put some filter over it to make you look warmer."
