  • Morgan Evans' longtime confidant and manager Rob Potts died in a motorcycle accident on October 27, 2017. It was Potts who discovered Evans in Australia, got him his first record deal and persuaded him to come to America. The singer wrote this tribute song to his friend and mentor on the day of his memorial service in Nashville.
  • Evans told The Boot how he and co-writers Chris DeStefano and Josh Osborne penned the song in the studio on the day of the memorial service.

"I didn't want to write that day or whatever," he recalled. "But we were all in the studio. Chris started playing a beat, and I started singing that melody, and the words 'things that we drink to' came out of my mouth. You know, when you lose someone, there's different ways you can sing about it, but what a great way to sing about it: as a celebration of life, and everything they did, and everything you got to do with them. We wrote it from that perspective."
  • Though the weight of the tragedy was not lost on him, Evans couldn't help but recall the joyful moments he and Potts shared together, so he DeStefano and Josh Osborne came up with a song that's a toast to a life well-lived.

Gonna raise up a tall glass
    Tonight as we look back
Back on all the life that we lived through
Yeah, the things that we drink to

Evans told Taste of Country: "I feel like we tried to write it in a way that was very specific, and at the same time very open to interpretation for anyone that's lost anyone. I feel like it was respectful in that way to him."
