  • Morgan James wrote this tender ballad for her husband, fellow singer-songwriter Doug Wamble, back when they were still dating. She hung on to it for a decade before she found the right project for it, which happened to be her 2023 album, Nobody's Fool.
  • James' soft vocals match the vulnerability of the lyrics, where she admits she'd given up on finding love before she met her future husband. While she doesn't mind freely expressing her feelings, James is more comfortable doing it in a more aggressive fashion.

"I feel more powerful and confident when I'm just yelling or belting and doing the louder and sexier stuff," she told Songfacts in a 2023 interview. "It's very interesting that a lot of people have commented they love 'I Waited For You' and 'You Found Me' so much where I just let my voice exist, and I'm a little more vulnerable. I think that's a good sign that I should continue to do that."
  • James got her start on Broadway in musicals like Godspell and Motown: The Musical before transitioning to solo artistry with her debut studio album, Hunter (2014), which featured a cover of Prince's "Call My Name."

Her rigorous stage background provided her with the right tools for the next phase of her career. "The best things that Broadway life taught me were stamina and work. There's nothing more exhausting than Broadway life," she told Songfacts. "It really teaches you about consistency and keeping your mind, body, and instrument healthy so you can do eight shows a week. You really get no time off in a Broadway schedule. It prepared me for things I didn't even know I was preparing for. Broadway actors, singers and dancers work harder than anybody on the planet, I swear, and it's a really great training ground for that."
  • The album credits note that James performed all of the lead and background vocals on the track, and no vocal tuning of any kind was used.
