  • Here, Morgan Wallen looks back on a past relationship hoping that maybe she's still got a candle burning for him.

    I wonder when you're drinkin'
If you find yourself thinkin' about
    That boy from East Tennessee
And I know we both knew better
    But we still said forever
And that was seven summers ago

Wallen is still yearning for his former girlfriend seven years after they broke up.
  • The singer originally tested the song out by sharing the first verse and chorus on social media. It quickly became a fan favorite and also gained traction on the TikTok app. Noting the enthusiastic response to the song, Wallen officially released it as a single on August 14, 2020.
  • Wallen wrote the song with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. It's his first collaboration with both Nashville hitmakers.
  • Joey Moi's production has a breezy, island vibe. The Canadian is a regular Wallen collaborator, having helmed his hit singles "Up Down," "Whiskey Glasses," "Chasin' You," and "More Than My Hometown."
  • The song debuted at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the second Top 10 debut ever for a song by a solo male country artist, following Garth Brooks' "Lost In You" in 1999.
  • "7 Summers" debuted at #1 on the Country chart, becoming Wallen's second song to reach the summit, after "Whiskey Glasses."
  • After Shane McAnally came up with the title, the three wrote the song inspired by a real-life experience of Wallen's back in 2013. "I was working for a landscaping company that summer," the singer recalled to Hits Daily Double. "I got hurt playing baseball, was going to the community college - and that wasn't going too well. So there might be someone out there, listening to this song on the radio and wondering if it's about them."
  • Wallen was scheduled as musical guest on Saturday Night Live for the October 10, 2020 episode, where he likely would have performed this song, but he was disinvited after he was seen in numerous videos interacting maskless with fans (and kissing some female ones) after a University of Alabama football game the week before, breaking the show's coronavirus protocols. Jack White replaced him.

Wallen did a little soul searching in the aftermath, posting a video on Instagram where he said, "I have some growing up to do. I think I've lost myself a little bit. I tried to find joy in the wrong places and it's left me with less joy."

Wallen eventually made his Saturday Night Live debut on the December 5, 2020 episode performing this song and "Still Goin' Down" as the musical guest. He also co-starred in a sketch with Ozark star Jason Bateman and SNL's Bowen Yung that skewered his removal from the earlier episode after breaking the show's COVID-19 protocols.
  • Directed by Justin Clough and shot in Nashville, the eight-minute cinematic music video depicts the song's wistful tale of lost love.

Wallen portrays a pitcher on his hometown high school baseball team who's feuding with his father about their different ideas of what his future looks like. He feels his dad's dream of him becoming a baseball star is being foisted on him when he wants to remain in his small hometown with the denim-clad girl he loves.
