Songfacts®:

  • "Days That End In Why" finds Morgan Wallen asking why his relationship ended. His girl never told him why she's leaving him, and he's thought and prayed over why she threw in the towel. Now, Wallen is left with a slew of unanswered questions and a half-full bed.
  • The song title is a double entendre. It references Wallen not only questioning why their romance dissolved, but also the fact that all seven days of the week end in "Y." There's no letup for Wallen's heartbreak, and he's dealing with his sadness on every day that ends in "Y" - in other words, every day.
  • Several times in the song, Wallen mentions drowning out his sorrows with booze, hinting to the listener his drinking may have triggered the breakup.
  • Eric Church's guitarist, Driver Williams, wrote the song with Blake Pendergrass and John Byron. Pendergrass and Bryon also co-wrote Wallen's "865," Chris Lane's "Summer Job Money" and Chase Rice's "Key West & Colorado."
  • "Days That End in Why" is one of three tracks Wallen released on December 2, 2022, as part of One Thing At a Time (Sampler). The EP serves as an appetizer for his third studio album.
