Songfacts®:

  • "Falling Apart" is a country lament where Morgan Wallen reflects on the consequences of a breakup he initiated. He's now come to realize, rather too late, that letting her go wasn't the winning idea he once thought. Life without her, it seems, is not so much an open road as a lonely crawl through emotional molasses.
  • While Wallen hasn't come right out and said, "Yes, this song is about that time I messed everything up and couldn't fix it," one gets the impression that the song, like much of his music, is drawn from personal experience. Wallen recorded it for I'm The Problem, an album characterized by his candid reckoning with his own flaws, especially as relating to failed relationships and personal demons. If the heartbreak in "Falling Apart" isn't literal, it's at least very convincingly imagined.
  • Wallen co-wrote the song with three of his most trusted musical co-conspirators:

Charlie Handsome, who racked up no fewer than 23 writing credits on I'm The Problem.

Blake Pendergrass, who co-penned 15 I'm The Problem tracks, including "Just In Case" and "Superman."

Josh Thompson, a steady hand in Wallen's camp whose previous work includes "Wasted On You," which topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
  • Wallen's longtime sonic architect Joey Moi produced the track alongside Jacob Durrett, another recurring name in the Wallen universe. Together, they give "Falling Apart" its mournful glow: gentle acoustic guitar, ambient steel, and just enough melodic ache.
