  • In July 2020, Indigo "Indie" Wilder Wallen entered the world as the son of Morgan Wallen and his ex-fiancée, KT Smith. The pair's relationship toggled between on-again and off-again from roughly 2016 to 2019, before they finally decided to break up permanently just before the birth of Indie.

    Wallen has been a consistent presence in his son's life and he occasionally shares glimpses of the time they spend together on social media.

    Released on May 9, 2025, "Superman" marks the first time country music's most mulleted mischief-maker has penned a track specifically for Indie.
  • Wallen didn't just wake up one day and decide to write a sweet song for his son. No, he tried to write this song many times over. He wanted to avoid the typical sentimental, slow, father-son song, instead aiming for something honest that reflected his own style and life experiences. After finally succeeding, Wallen teased "Superman" on his social media in February 2025, with the caption:

    "Been trying for a long time to write a song I loved to my son. None of them ever feel good enough because of how perfect I want something like this to be. And not saying this is perfect, but I am very proud of it."
  • "Superman" is a stripped-down, sober reflection; a father speaking plainly to his son about the contradictions of being seen as a hero while feeling like anything but. Wallen admits to various falls from grace, including his run-ins with the law and bumpy relationship with alcohol, which he refers to as his "kryptonite."
