Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Low in High School is a tongue-in cheek call to arms for people that are alarmed by the horrors of the modern world presented by the media. Morrissey proclaims the merits of spending a day in bed, preferring to hiding under the covers, rather than getting involved with this planet's many problems. The British singer's call is to focus instead on our own strengths and to "stop watching the news because the news contrives to frighten you, to make you feel small and alone."
  • The jaunty, upbeat track was produced by Joe Chiccarelli famed for working with the likes of The Strokes, Beck and The White Stripes. It is a departure from Morrissey's typical sound, being driven by keyboards, acoustic guitars and joyful melodies which underpin the iconic British singer's morose call for people not to bother watching the news or going to work.
  • Morrissey teased the song's release on September 18, 2017 with his first ever tweet, which reads: "Spent the day in bed."
  • The song's music video was filmed at the Victorian building in South East London that houses Peckham Liberal Club. The clip was directed by Sophie Muller and shows the footballer Joey Barton pushing Morrissey around in a wheelchair.
