Songfacts®:

  • This randy rocker was written by Mott The Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs, who also sang lead on the track. When the band split up, Ralphs brought the song to his new group, Bad Company, who included it on their first album, this time with their vocalist Paul Rodgers singing lead. The album took off, going to #1 in a number of territories, thanks in large part to two other songs Ralphs brought to the group that were not recorded by Mott: "Can't Get Enough" and "Movin' On." The Bad Company version of "Ready For Love" became much more popular than the original.
  • On the album, this appears as "Ready For Love"/"After Lights," with "After Lights" being an instrumental section. In the Bad Company version, parts of that section were included.
