Songfacts®:

  • This freestyle rap caused outrage, not because of the de rigueur profanity, but because of how it was recorded. The man behind it, Terngu Agera, the rapper known as Mover, was convicted of murder in July 2014 and given a life sentence with a heavy tariff.

He recorded it with two other inmates in Belmarsh, one of the highest security prisons in Britain, on a mobile phone. After it was uploaded to social media, a tabloid newspaper picked up the story, and the issue was raised in Parliament.

Needless to say, "Behind Bars" is not to be confused with the slightly earlier song of the same name by The Wanted. >>>
