Songfacts®:

  • Dennis Princewell Stehr is a Dutch Hip-Hop artist who is better known by his stage name Mr. Probz. After plugging away on the mic from the early 2000s, spitting lyrics about his every day experiences as an inner city youth, Stehr finally released his English-language debut album The Treatment for free in 2013.
  • This was released as a single from The Treatment, peaking at #6 in The Netherlands. German electronic producer Robin Schulz's remix propelled the song to international success topping the charts in several European countries including Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
  • Lyrically, the narrator of the song has lost his orientation because of a dying relationship. He uses the sea as a metaphor to describe his feeling that he is drowning.
  • The song's music video was shot in Tulum, Mexico and stars Belarusian model Maryna Linchuk.
  • Mr. Probz was the fourth Dutch dance-based artist to top the UK singles chart since the beginning of 2013. He followed Bingo Players, Nicky Romero and Martin Garrix.
  • Mr. Probz attributes the song's success in part to its honesty. He told Digital Spy: "I think everybody could place themselves in those words one way or another. It doesn't matter if it's friendship or a relationship or whatever. I think everybody could. It's just honest. If you keep it simple and honest then people are gonna relate to it. I hope, I don't know. It depends on the person who's listening. For me, I think that's one of the reasons."

  • Suze from Airdrie, AbI love this song but only recently truly understood the lyrics. Now I love it even more because I can relate to it.
