• After a silence so long you could have finished college four times, raised a family, and still had time to wonder if Mudvayne would ever record again, the band roared back on August 28, 2025, with "Hurt People Hurt People," their first new song in 16 years.
• For a band that once made metal feel like a psychological experiment in rhythm and rage, this was no small tremor. The track, a tidy 3 minutes and 34 seconds, reunites the full classic lineup: vocalist Chad Gray, guitarist Greg Tribbett, bassist Ryan Martinie and drummer Matt McDonough. • Musically, "Hurt People Hurt People" could have time-traveled straight from the early 2000s, when Mudvayne were riding high on their blend of industrial menace and mathematical groove. The song lunges and snarls, packed with the kind of syncopated chaos and distorted screams that made them heroes of nu-metal's darker corners.
• Beneath the scorched-earth sonics lies something unexpectedly tender. Chad Gray wrote the song not as a war cry but as a sort of spiritual ceasefire. "I think I wrote this song as a reminder to myself to break the cycle," he explained. "We create our own suffering, our own hurt. It's time for us to create self-love and let go of the pain. It was never ours to begin with."
• The single ended years of speculation about whether the band's 2021 reunion would lead to new material. When Mudvayne signed with Alchemy Records in May 2025 for a full-length album, it became clear: The architects of beautiful chaos were back, and they'd learned a few things about pain along the way.
