Songfacts®:

  • The first taste of Muse's seventh studio album Drones, the riff has been floating around the band's live sets since 1999. Usually played at the end of "Stockholm Syndrome," it had previously been referred to as "0305030." Vocalist Matt Bellamy told Q magazine: "Dom (Howard, drums) was always saying, 'Turn that into a song' and I was with like, 'Nah, it's too redneck, dude!'"
  • An expletive-laden track about the violent nature of modern society, this song finds Matt Bellamy promising:

I'll turn you into a super drone (super drone)
And you will kill on my command
    And I won't be responsible

Bellamy said: "To me, 'Drones' are metaphorical psychopaths which enable psychopathic behaviour with no recourse. The world is run by Drones utilizing Drones to turn us all into Drones. This album explores the journey of a human, from their abandonment and loss of hope, to their indoctrination by the system to be a human drone, to their eventual defection from their oppressors."
