Songfacts®:

  • "I Don't Wanna Take Anything From You" finds Nadia Reid addressing both a lover and herself about the strain of being on the road. Though she is weighted with exhaustion and jet lag, the singer-songwriter admits there is a melancholic beauty to travel.
  • You waited on that plane
    You waited all night
This place looks immaculate at four in the morning
I need to go deeper than that

Asked by Mojo magazine about the above cryptic lyrics, Reid admitted even she doesn't know what it means. "I like that you feel that it's cryptic," she said, "because so often songs can be way too obvious, and what's the point? I guess it's overprotection of the self. I remember being asked to talk about preservation and really struggled. I could probably talk about it now better. The same with this record. I think a lot of the time my process is unconscious. If I get to conscious, everything just starts to suck."
