Natalie Prass Artistfacts

  • 1986
  • Natalie Prass grew up in the Tidewater region in Virginia. From the age of 10 she was accompanied everywhere by her pet cockatoo.
  • Prass moved to Nashville in September 2006 where she attended Middle Tennessee State University. She recalled to Pitchfork: "I enrolled in a songwriting program that was brand new when I began, and I'm glad I did. MTSU helped me be responsible with my songwriting. It taught me that I need to finish, regardless of whether I feel inspired or bored. Just finish."
  • Prass' debut EP Small and Sweet and six-track follow-up Sense of Transcendence brought the singer-songwriter to the attention of Jenny Lewis, who enlisted her as a keyboardist and backing singer.
  • Her eponymous debut album was released through Columbia Records & Spacebomb Records on January 27, 2015. Prass told Q magazine regarding her bluntly confessional lyrics: "My songs are very personal, but I'm not afraid of that. Love is the most powerful subject there is. And I've had my heart broken pretty bad."
  • When Natalie Prass couldn't make a gig supporting Ryan Adams in early 2015, he put on a dress and covered her songs under the name Natalie Sass.
