Songfacts®:

  • There are plenty of ways to let a friend know that his girlfriend is disliked. You could drop subtle hints, delicately steer conversations toward her more abrasive qualities, or perhaps deploy the old-fashioned method of quietly enduring her presence while exchanging despairing glances with everyone else in the room.

Or, if you're Nate Smith and Hardy, you could write a full-throated country-rock anthem called "Nobody Likes Your Girlfriend" and lay it all out in three and a half minutes of unfiltered truth.
  • The song is a musical intervention. Smith and Hardy, with all the tact of a sledgehammer, detail why this particular girlfriend is about as welcome as a skunk at a garden party. She's mean. She insults her boyfriend in public. She openly despises his favorite bands. And, just to add a little extra seasoning to the stew of reasons she's loathed, she's probably cheating on him. "Everyone you love hates seeing you with her," Smith and Hardy declare.
  • This is the first time Smith and Hardy have duetted on a song together, though both have often teamed up with other artists.

Smith has joined forces with Avril Lavigne ("Bulletproof," "Can You Die From a Broken Heart") and has shared drinks (at least musically) with Lee Brice and Hailey Whitters on "Drinkin' Buddies."

Hardy, meanwhile, has made a name for himself both as a performer and a songwriter, as well as duetting on such hits as "Wait In The Truck" with Lainey Wilson and "Beers On Me" with Dierks Bentley.
  • Hardy co-wrote "Nobody Likes Your Girlfriend" with Jessie Jo Dillon, Ben Johnson and Hunter Phelps.

Jessie Jo Dillon has co-written songs for artists like Cole Swindell ("Break Up In The End"), Dan + Shay ("10,000 Hours") and Morgan Wallen ("Lies Lies Lies").

Nashville songwriters Ben Johnson and Hunter Phelps often write together. They have previously collaborated with both Nate Smith ("Bulletproof") and Hardy ("Give Heaven Some Hell," "Truck Bed").
  • The Spidey Smith-directed video stars actor and comedian Kevin James alongside digital creators Sophia La Corte and Amanda Mertz. "I sent Kevin a video, half-jokingly, asking if he'd take the lead role," said Smith. "I never imagined he'd actually say yes!"

Ryan "Spidey" Smith is a seasoned director and photographer renowned for his extensive contributions to the music industry. Over his career, he has directed videos for the likes of Eric Church and Cole Swindell and is responsible for several iconic album covers, including Morgan Wallen's Dangerous and One Thing at a Time.
