Songfacts®:

  • Natural Selection was a one-hit wonder from 1991 who were founded by Elliott Erickson and Frederick Thomas in 1989. They were able to score a big hit with this single, which is about a man claiming he'll do anything for a particular woman's love, and it peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's best remembered for featuring spoken vocals from Niki Haris, who was a longtime backup singer for Madonna. Her vocals were recorded to sound as if being spoken on the telephone as she responds to his claims that he'll do anything for her. It lead some to conclude that the song was about a man in love with a phone sex operator. >>
