Songfacts®:

  • The chorus is based around part of the 1984 movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The scene in question is where Indiana Jones, his 11-year-old Chinese sidekick Short Round and the nightclub singer Willie find themselves in an underground temple where the ancient Thuggee cult are worshipping the Hindu goddess Kali Ma with human sacrifice. They watch as the Thuggs chain one of their victims in a cage and rip his heart out before lowering him into a ceremonial pit of molten lava.

The lyrics in the chorus act a metaphor for the rest of the song in which Andrew Wade sings of a breakup. He let the girl "slip between" his fingers and he now feels like his heart is being broken apart.
  • The song features guest vocals from A Day To Remember's Jeremy McKinnon, who also co-produced. Life's Not out to Get You.
  • The song ends with McKinnon singing lyrics that are a direct quote from lines spoken by Willie Scott (played by Kate Capshaw) in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
