Songfacts®:

  • Chris Martin from Coldplay helped out on this track. He and Furtado are old friends, and they ran into each other at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards, where she invited him to come by the studio where she and her producer Timbaland were working on Loose. Martin dropped by and sat in on keyboards for the song, which was a last-minute addition to the album. >>

  • Martin also came up with the title. Furtado told The Guardian: "He came into the studio but had to leave after a couple of hours, so I went: 'Why do all good jams come to an end?' He sang back: 'All good things come to an end,' then the next day wrote the verses."
  • "All Good Things (Come To An End)" was the fifth single from Nelly Furtado's third album, Loose. Timbaland's fairy dust is all over the album; he produced most of the songs, including this one, with his associated, Nate "Danja" Hills and Jim Beanz.

The hits from the album were all produced by these guys: "Promiscuous," "Say It Right," "Maneater" and "Do It." Timbaland was also working with Justin Timberlake around this time on hits like "What Goes Around... Comes Around" and "SexyBack."
  • Lyrically, this song is similar to Furtado's first hit, "I'm Like A Bird." In both songs, she's a wandering spirit, leaving her options open so she can go where life takes her.
  • The title proved prescient: "All Good Things (Come To An End)" was Nelly Furtado's last big hit. Her next album was a Spanish-language release called Mi Plan in 2009. Her focus shifted to family as she raised her daughter Nevis, born in 2003. Her next albums came in 2012, 2017 and 2024.
