Songfacts®:

  • Here, Nelly Furtado sings about a carnival where on the surface she appears to be having fun, but in reality the songstress is unable to enjoy the moment.

If you spend enough cash at the carnival games
You'll have a prize in your hand when you walk away
It'll slip through your fingers and you'll never know
What winning's really like, at all

Furtado explained the song's meaning to Billboard magazine: "There's this song called 'Carnival Games,' about spending money at a carnival and getting a bunch of really cool-looking stuffed animals, but you'll never really know what winning is like because you haven't taken the time to look within and try to search for real happiness."
