Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from English singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner's second album Rebuilt By Humans.
  • The song had its worldwide radio premiere on Jo Whiley's July 23 2009 Radio 1 show.
  • This hymn to the joys of gigging was one of the earliest songs Faulkner wrote for the new album. The song was penned in a basement flat behind Harrods in Knightsbridge, London. He chose the location as knew no one who lived round there so there would be no distractions.
  • In December 2008, Faulkner slipped on some ice and badly injured his wrist in which doctors had to fit a metal plate. He was effectively "put back together again" by humans, hence the album title.
  • Rebuilt By Humans was recorded in a tiny room under the stairs at London's Miloco studio. There was barely enough room for Faulkner and producer Mike Spencer.
  • Faulkner said in publicity materials: "I wanted to avoid the classic second album thing of complaining about how great things have gone and all the hard work. I had brilliant fun making this album, and hopefully it sounds that way." He added this was one reason why he chose this song as his lead single: "Hopefully it comes across as quite grateful. Because I am grateful."
