Songfacts®:

  • This song finds NF reflecting on his moral shortcomings and flaws. He confesses to getting cross with people who give him constructive criticism.

We tend to get mad at the ones that call us out but the fact is we need someone that'll be honest when we fly off the handle
I admit I throw a fit when I begin to unravel

The rapper's biggest weakness is adopting a negative mindset.

But what I really wanna do is learn to handle my thoughts
And put the reins on 'em, show 'em I'm the one that's the boss
And pull 'em back when they get out of hand, I'm breakin' they jaws

NF concludes that he is only human, so will slip up, but the important thing is to learn from his mistakes.

Failing's how you grow and learn your lessons, kids
Take the worst and try to make the best of it

But when he's lost in his self-destructive behavior it's difficult to motivate himself to do the right thing.

There's a high road but I skip the exit when I'm lost
  • Los Angeles rapper Hopsin spits the second verse, which has a similar theme of battling the urge to misbehave. He talks about going to therapy to help him understand why he reacts so angrily and how wealth didn't make him happy.
  • The two rappers come together near the end to ask for divine help in escaping their sinful natures. They feel lost as they don't have the strength themselves to stop constantly slipping up.
  • The pair of MCs co-wrote the song with NF's go-to producer Tommee Profitt, and Saint X, formerly of the EDM duo Capital Kings.
  • NF and Patrick Tohill directed the video, which they filmed in the mountains of Colorado. It shows the two rappers finding themselves lost, and wandering through the snowy mountains trying to find their way home.
