Songfacts®:

  • This song is about looking within.

Oh, I don't want to see us lose any more time
This moment is a mountain to move
    So move it aside
Wake up now, wake up now
Wake up now, wake up now

Nick Mulvey explained: "'Wake up now' is a more of a message to myself, a reminder, it's not about preaching to you. It's also one of those phrases that is a reflection of what the reader wants it to be – for some people 'wake up now' is politically charged, or about climate change, and for others it might just be a song about breakfast – it can be different for me every day. Small actions can create big changes."
  • Mulvey explained to HMV.com why he used the song's "wake up now" phrase as the album title.

"The title chose itself. It's the chorus from 'Mountain To Move' and, as with all my titles, it's a case of me getting my mind out the way and letting the ideas flow. The song led me to that phrase. I was a bit reluctant at first, even though I knew it was what I wanted to say, I didn't want to be misunderstood."
  • The song's opening line ("Caught up in specialness") came from the book The Only Dance There Is by Ram Dass. Mulvey explained:

"Reading that book gave me another key line, I realized I had been 'caught up in specialness'. I realized I was unhappy and had to change, and it was my responsibility and mine alone to make that change for myself. It was time to surrender, to let go of the impatience and self- criticism."
