This '80s-inspired track was released as the lead urban single, and third single overall, from Nicki Minaj's sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Unloaded. It finds the Harajuku Barbie taking aim at other female rappers in a similar fashion to other joints like "Stupid Hoe" and "Roman's Revenge." "Bitches ain't s--- and they ain't sayin' nothin'," she spits on the hook. The song premiered on March 20, 2012 on The Angie Martinez radio show.
The song features a 16-bar verse from Def Jam rapper 2 Chainz, who was formerly known as Tity Boi. He spits rhymes in which he brags about his Lexus LS 450, and how if he wasn't rapping, he'd be pimping. He told Artist Direct how he ended up collaborating with Minaj on this cut: "I was on tour with her and Lil Wayne in 2009 on the I Am Music tour," 2 Chainz explained. "She reached out. She said she had an urban song and was going in a different direction. Every time she played it, people were like, '2 Chainz should do it.' My resume is filled with trap. I'm a street dude. It was a good situation. She gave it to me and I knocked it out on my tour bus and sent it right back."
The Benny Boom directed music video was filmed on March 18, 2012 in Miami. It shows Minaj spending time in a strip club and she told MTV News that it reflects her gratitude for the support that the lap dancers and strippers showed her in the MC's pre-Young Money days. "When I was doing my mixtapes, I would perform in strip clubs. I would perform in clubs and it was just like some of my most die-hard fans would be in these places," she said. "I wanted to kinda honor all my girls in the club and just say thank you for the support."
"Beez" in this case means "always," like "we beez on point." Nicki Minaj broke it down on The Graham Norton Show: "It's like, I am always in the trap. Now, the trap relates to anywhere that you get your money."

So, translated, "beez in the trap" means Nicki is always getting that money.
"Beez In The Trap" was abuzz in 2025 when it showed up online in a mashup with the '90s classic "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes. The chorus on "What's Up" (sung by Linda Perry) works surprising well as a hook for Nicki's song.
