Songfacts®:

  • This Beyoncé-featuring song was a quid pro quo. Queen Bey agreed to record vocals for a Pinkprint track in exchange for Nikki rapping on her "Flawless" remix.
  • The song was produced by Chauncey "Hit-Boy" Hollis, the beatmaker behind hits like "Drop The World," "Niggas in Paris," "Clique" and "Backseat Freestyle."
  • SZA wrote the lyrics to the self-love ode. The first R&B act on the Top Dawg Entertainment roster, SZA broke through with her third EP Z, which reached #39 on the US album chart.
  • SZA also worked with Hit-Boy on her debut album. She recalled to Sway's Universe how she ended up contributing to this track. "The call just got put in and then I arrived [laughs], I have no idea," she said. "Hit-Boy produced and I wrote the lyrics so Nicki and Beyoncé are singing some of the things that I wrote to it."

"But him (Hit-Boy) and I just work really well together like we vibe together just because he's such a cool kid," SZA added. "He's not pretentious at all, for as accomplished as he is he's just super welcoming and drinks like chocolate milk all day, honestly the nicest kid."
  • When this song climbed to #10 on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay chart for the week ending March 28, 2015, Minaj became the first female to have four tracks simultaneously in the Top 10 of the tally. The other three tunes that put her in the record-breaking position were The Pinkprint tracks "Truffle Butter" and "Only" plus the Rae Sremmurd collaboration "Throw Sum Mo."

The only two other artists who have ever reached this feat were, coincidentally, her Young Money partners and "Only" collaborators Drake and Lil Wayne.
  • Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé filmed the music video whilst they were attending the Coachella music festival in April 2015. As well as shots of the two stars eating hamburgers and trying to throw french fries into each others' mouths, there are blink-and-you-will-miss it cameos from Hit-Boy and Vic Mensa.
