Songfacts®:

  • This is a hook up between the Dutch house producer Nicky Romero (best known for "I Could Be The One," his UK chart-topping collaboration with Avicii) and the Chicago based electronic dance music group Krewella, who scored a US Top 40 hit with "Alive." The song was released on Romero's Protocol Recordings on July 15, 2013.
  • The song started out as an instrumental created by Romero and almost didn't have a vocal at all, despite his best efforts. "I really wanted to do a vocal on this track," he told Billboard magazine. "I had my team source many vocals, but I was at a point where I was going to give up."

The solution came when the Chicago EDM trio asked to have a crack. "Krewella told me they would like to have a go [at a vocal], and after a few tweaks, this was the result." explained Romero.
  • Yasmine and Jahan Yousaf of Krewella told Billboard: "The first time we heard the track, it had the perfect mix of what we love: dark and emotional melodies with the ability to make the listener still dance. The concept is supposed to be relative to anyone. It was the simplest way we could write a thank you song to that one person who was a hand in the dark for us."
