Songfacts®:

  • In this torch song, Nicole Atkins still has it bad for her ex. Even though she knows he's over her, she just can't move on. Her friends tell her to move on, that she's better off alone, but she won't heed that advice, since she's a little crazy. She got married in 2013, but claims the song is about one of her real ex-boyfriends.
  • Atkins wrote this song with her friend and mentor, Chris Isaak. She had his poster on her wall when she was in high school, then got a big break when he brought her on tour in 2007. Atkins also wrote the album's title track with Isaak.
  • The sentiment in this song isn't too far off from Patsy Cline's 1961 classic "Crazy," where she's dealing with a breakup, feeling crazy for thinking it could have worked.
  • The video was directed by the photographer Rett Rogers and is modeled after classic variety shows like The Old Grey Whistle Test and The Midnight Special. Rogers' cat, Huey, makes an appearance in the middle eight.

  • Lauren from IndianaWhen I first heard her sing "oh please" in those higher notes, it made me think of Unchained Melody. Was curious if it was an inspiration for her in any way, which is how I ended up here lol.
