Songfacts®:

  • The Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish's seventh long player, Imaginaerum, is a concept album telling the story of an old composer on his deathbed, reminiscing of his youth. This is the lead single, which was released on November 11, 2011.
  • The song is about the 1982 animated movie The Snowman. Band leader Tuomas Holopainen told Metal Hammer magazine: "It's such cool stuff, and I think that 'Walking In The Air' is the best piece of music ever composed, so [I thought], 'let's do a remake of that'!"
  • The song spent four weeks at #1 on the Finnish Singles charts. It was Nightwish's twelfth chart-topper in their home country.
