Songfacts®:

  • Here, Nesbitt recounts her teenage experiences dating older men.

I'd meet you in town with my fake ID
Claiming I was twenty-three to get into bars
    I never felt so cool

Having reached the age those men were when they pursued her, Nesbitt feels a sense of discomfort. "It's not a specific person - it's about when I was younger and attracted to older guys," she explained to The Sun. "You feel so mature and you feel it's exciting and cool, but oh my gosh, I didn't know anything. Hopefully, it will make people realize they don't need to grow up so fast."
  • Nesbitt wrote and produced "Older Guys" solo. It was one of the last songs she wrote for her Alaskar album in her new home studio. "I was sitting with a guitar, in my favorite open tuning, and it just kind of came out," she recalled to Consequence. "It was a really easy song to write and I ended up producing it myself. I recorded live piano for the first time, which was pretty cool. It was originally just a voice note of me singing it in my living room, so I wanted to keep the final version feeling lo-fi."

"It's lyrically quite a vulnerable song," Nesbitt added, "and I think the production reflects that."
