Songfacts®:

  • This rapturous anthem is the first single from Nigerian-German roots singer/songwriter Nneka's second album No Longer At Ease. It was her first single to break into the German and UK charts.
  • Nneka was brought up in Nigeria and moved to Germany at the age of 18. Many of the songs on No Longer At Ease are about the corruption in her homeland including this one, which moves from the personal to the political.
  • No Longer At Ease takes its title from a book of the same name by Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe. The book tells of Obi Okonkwo, who leaves his Nigerian village for a British education and a job in the colonial civil service, but who struggles to adapt to a Western lifestyle and ends up taking a bribe.
