Songfacts®:

  • This song is a tribute to the No BS! Brass Band's hometown of Richmond, Virginia, known as "The RVA." Group leader Reggie Pace described the song as a "pep rally for our city." Said Pace: "It feels like a pep rally, like cheerleaders are running around. And it's just loud, like a theme song if you will. Our team is like a football team, so it's like we're the football team."
  • With 12 members, the No BS! Brass Band can make quite a racket, which comes in handy for a party tune like this one. At one point in the song, it turns into a call-and-response, which works even if their not in Richmond: "When I say RV, you say A." The rap is handled by trombone player Bryan Hooten.
  • The brass sound is associated with New Orleans, but No BS! always made it clear they had a different point of origin, which endears them to their hometown faithful. "Our city really embraces us because we don't pretend to be from New Orleans - we don't pretend to be something we aren't," Pace said.
