Songfacts®:

  • "Slow Dancer" is the first track from Noah Gundersen's second album, Carry the Ghost.

In our interview with Gundersen, he explained how the piano-driven tune is essentially a breakup song. "The idea is that sometimes people need to express their anger or frustration as a process of healing," he said. "I guess my character in that song is saying, 'That's okay. If you need to be angry at me and that's going to make things better for you, then by all means express that anger.'"
  • The Seattle-based singer revealed to The Bluegrass Situation why fire was his choice of imagery for the lyrics. "It seems that almost every summer the eastern side of Washington State is plagued by fires, licking up the dry grass of the region," he said. "At the time of the song's conception, these fires corresponded to a more personal flame burning up at the end of a relationship."
