  • This song is about Ralph Nader, a consumer advocate who ran for president in 2000. That election was very close, with the incumbent, George W. Bush, defeating Al Gore by winning Florida by just 537 votes. Nader likely siphoned votes from Gore, costing him the election and ultimately doing much more harm to Nader's cause.

"He is an American hero," Fat Mike of NOFX told Songfacts. "He saved so many people's lives, but when he was running in the 2000 election, he got three million votes or something like that. He got 3% of the vote. I don't know what kind of a statement he was making, but if he would have told his followers, 'We really don't want George Bush in office. What a terrible man. What a f--king moron. I want you to give my votes to Al Gore,' then Al Gore would have won. And Al Gore, what does he spend his life doing since he lost? Climate change. He's way more of a decent man than George Bush. And that was when the world really started to go in decline – because of George Bush."
  • The song title is a play on the phrase Franco-American, meaning Americans with French heritage. It's also brand of soup.
  • The album title, The War On Errorism, mocks George W. Bush's "War on Terrorism." Much of the album is a reaction to Bush's presidency.

When Bush was up for re-election 2004, Fat Mike did a lot more to get him booted from office than just making songs about him. He mobilized the NOFX fanbase by setting up punkvoter.com. He held his nose and made lots of TV appearances (which he detested) to publicize it and make his case against Bush.

The 2004 election didn't go his way: Bush defeated his challenger, John Kerry.
