Songfacts®:

  • The title of this song is sometimes spelled without the brackets, and 'Cause is sometimes rendered as Cause or Cos. "Don't Laugh At Me ('Cause I'm A Fool)" was co-written by Norman Wisdom and June Tremayne; they appear to have both contributed to the words and the music. It was performed by the comedian himself in the 1953 film Trouble In Store, which according to the Internet Movie Database was released in the USA on January 12, 1955.
  • The sheet music was published by David Toff of London retailing for one shilling. There were two versions: one with Wisdom on the cover, another with Penny Nicholls. The Norman Wisdom recording was released on the Columbia label backed by "Once In Love With Amy."

Unsurprisingly, it became Wisdom's theme song; 'Cos I'm A Fool is also the title of his autobiography, co-written with Bernard Bale. >>>
