Songfacts®:

  • Oingo Boingo was formed by Richard Elfman to provide music for a film he was working on. The group ended up writing music for their own releases as well as other movies, including Back To School. This was written for the John Hughes movie Weird Science, about two kids who find a way to create a beautiful woman through science. The band had to rush this out and didn't like the song, but it became well known due to its use in the movie, and was included on their album Dead Man's Party. >>>

  • Danny Elfman (Richard's brother), was lead singer of the group. He went on to write theme music for many popular movies and TV shows, including The Simpsons, Beetlejuice, Batman and Edward Scissorhands.
  • The Weird Science movie was turned into a TV series in 1994 starring Vanessa Angel as the female creation. The series ran for five seasons, and used this song as its theme.

  • Tim from Northfield, MnThis song was also used for the Weird Science Television Series. Namely for the opening.
  • Wilson from Tulsa, OkActually the band started off as The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, musical theater group. Danny took over in 1976 when Richard began pursuing a film career. In 1979, Danny changed the format of the band ans shortened the name to Oingo Boingo. If you can find some of music of The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, it is certainly worth a listen.
  • Ograstamon from Newkirk, OkI wouldn't put this song on my Top 10 by Boingo but as they only have three tracks on this site I must give it a high rating to correct this oversite.
  • Madison from Norway, MeDanny Elfman is an incredible movie soundtrack writer. I don't love the stuff he did with Oingo Boingo but I really like Weird Science. I love all the little percussion noises in the background.
  • Max from Laconia, NhWhy the hell am I the only one writing something for this awsome song? Does no one ever listen to great stuff like this anymore? Idiots!!! Danny also did the singing voice of Jack Skelington on the Nightmare Before Christmas.
