Songfacts®:

  • Ol' Dirty Bastard was probably the most erratic member of the rap collective Wu-Tang Clan, and in this song, he rambles on about his distaste for certain women, his sexual prowess and his fame, while Kelis sings the hook about how she's got his money. It's unclear why she has his money, as it doesn't seem like Dirty is her pimp, and it's certainly not in his nature to lend out cash to a lady in need. Kelis had a huge hit of her own in 2003 with "Milkshake."
  • The samples "Children's Story" by the British rapper Slick Rick.
  • The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo) produced this track. It was one of their early hits, and the duo went on to massive success working on hits like "Hot In Herre" and "Drop It Like It's Hot."
  • The video, directed by Hype Williams, uses footage from the 1975 blaxploitation film Dolemite and incorporates shots of Ol' Dirty Bastard from his 1995 video "Shimmy Shimmy Ya," also directed by Williams. >>

  • This was ODB's only Pop hit, although he scored with guest appearances on "Ghetto Superstar" (#15 in 1998) and "Fantasy" (#1 in 1995). He died of a drug overdose in 2004.
