• The acoustic, lighthearted tune is sweet for Old Dominion, as the band's only agenda the day in January 2018 they created the song had been to start work on their follow-up to Happy Endings. However, the words just came tumbling out, and the next thing they knew, they had recorded "Make It Sweet."
  
  "That [final] recording is probably the second time we've ever played that song," lead singer Matthew Ramsey told Billboard. "You can kind of hear the excitement and the energy we have for it right there, because we had just created it and said, 'Okay, let's record it.'"
• Old Dominion released "Make It Sweet" as the lead single from their self-titled third album. The record found the quintet linking up once again with Shane McAnally, the same producer that helmed their first two sets.
• During the first week of August 2020, Old Dominion teased their fans on social media with a succession of close-up photos of cats posted on their Instagram and Twitter. It led to the release on August 7, 2020, of a "meow mix" of their self-titled album featuring all of the vocals replaced with the word "meow."
  
  Old Dominion aren't the first group to replace vocals with cat noises. The Boston, Massachusetts rock band Guster released a fake online version of their 2003 album Keep it Together in which all the vocals were replaced by simulated feline meows sung by the group's monitor engineer, Matt Peskie. Titled The Meowstro Sings - Guster's Keep it Together, they released the tracks to Kazaa to deter illegal sharing and downloading of their legitimate tracks.
  
  A decade later, the hip-hop duo Run The Jewels dropped a parody remix album, Meow The Jewels, which was essentially their 2014 Run the Jewels 2 record but with all the beats replaced by cat sounds.
